A Day with My Little Picasso
Here I am, back again after an itchy experience with another masterpiece from my little lady. I don't know if it is just me being biased as her mom and number one fan, but I love the way she draws. There is something about her work that strikes me as 'so Picasso'.
When she was a little younger , I always encouraged her to spend time doing art, read her books, and write her thoughts or stories in her diary. Given other activities to keep her busy and let her creative juices flowing, she spends just enough time for TV (thank heavens I was able to teach her how to survive without it!).
She made this drawing yesterday, and for the first time in months I have seen her make art from start to finish, again. She actually begged me to stay and watch her finish making her new princess.
"Mom, please don't work in the computer. Stay here and watch me, pleasssse!"
I realized that I have not been much around lately to see her work on something. I usually see her artworks either half done or already finished when I get home from the office. It has become a habit for me to check her sketch pads for new creations whenever I can, and I am amazed by the fact that she is becoming more prolific as the days go by.
So I stayed. Never mind if I am still agonizing over my allergy or that I have 300 EntreCards to drop and more than a dozen of emails to read. This moment is far more important than all my petty concerns and tasks combined.
My baby asked me to spend time with her. What could be more important than that?
Sometimes when we get too busy making a living, we tend to forget to spend time with the very people that make our lives worth living. We miss a lot and regret it later after time has passed us by.
It is quite funny that it took an itchy worm to make me stay home that day which eventually led us to spend quality time together. Which reminds me, I finally found a reason to be grateful about that unfortunate event.
*scratch* *scratch* :)

19 showed some lovin':
yeah you're right! Her work does have a resemblance to Picasso. If I am not wrong it was Picasso who said that he tries to be like a child when he paints because... (I forgot why ^_^).
Maybe it's because children are innocent and they see the world for it's beauty and stuff.
Anyway it's great how you encourage her to develop her talents and skills.
That artwork is really pretty. You should have it framed KCee.I am so envious of you right now...not because of the itch (he he) but because of this moments you have with your kid.
That is pretty! Girls seem to be better at sitting down and finish the work. My son likes cars and wheels.
I admire you Kcee - on the way you encourage your little lady to develop her artistic talent. Keep it up mom!
I learned a lesson your post. My little one is somewhat addicted to TV (hehe). I should limit her viewing time and let her engage in more worthwhile activities just like your little lady's doing.
As an artist myself, you are right about your daughter because i see great potentials in art work.
Be a proud mom and encourage her the more.
hmmmm.. it does have a picasso feel! I know what its like to deal with allergies- very uncomfortable!
hope the itch goes away soon =)
That artwork is spectaculor, truly. Very clever. A beautiful post to remind us what is truly important in our lives.
I love her drawing ! its just precious!
The little lady is really good at her craft and you are good at bringing that out of her! Have a good weekend ahead! :)
i have you tagged. it's fun. nyt!
Thanks for stopping by and dropping a card. I really appreciate it.
No, it doesn’t have a card, but it’s important to share a hug…http://www.freehugscampaign.org/
And a comment about your little artist....I hope you're saving these in a notebook! Or you make a frame for them, hang it up where all your friends/family can see when they visit and then alternate the old with the new each time she draws! Good for their self-esteem.
Thanks

This is a really good piece of work. And isn't it amazing how if we look hard enough we can always find a silver lining.
My daughter was always fascinated with books and letters. Her favorite playtime was sitting with me at her little desk, right before bed time, and playing with her magnetic alphabet letters.
Now she has her PHD and has been teaching English Literature for almost eight years.
You just never know. You may truly have a little prodigy on your hands.
And you are so right about spending time with your children. Mine are all grown now. I am 51 and the best memories of my younger years are the ones spent with my two girls.:-))))
Hi Kcee,
Itchyworms is a local band. They have good songs too, I hope you don't scratch them off. :-)
My daughter used to draw all the time with pictures similar to the ones your child has made. We encouraged her all throughout and praised the work she did but pointed out where she could improve. I have kept all their drawings and messages since all were offered to us as her way of expressing affection, which we always reciprocated.
She went on to take fine arts in UP and graduated cum laude. Worked with an advertising agency and is now into graphic design in an international company - traveling all over Asia and Europe.
Taking their interests to heart rather than imposing what we feel is important for their careers or deciding what they should become can do wonders. You're on the right track. Keep on it. :-) --Durano, done!
galing ng anak mo talaga. I'm glad you loved the feature. Hope you could join again in the next. Thanks
@ Vincent
Yes, I also read that somewhere about Picasso.
What I really admire about kids' art is that they are drawn the way kids see things as it is, and not because they follow a certain standard or measurement of what they should create. :)
@ Jade
Thanks! I'm currently compiling all her work and will have them framed soon.
I'm trying my best to spend time with her because soon she'll be all grown up and busy with her own world. *sigh*
@ Jojo
Thanks! Your son is still young, he will develop more interests while growing up. :)
@ Wena
Thanks! I don't watch TV often myself, and have found joy in doing other things in my spare time. I just wanted to pass it on to her, with the hope that she carries it towards adulthood. :)
@ Tyna
Thanks! With a lovely comment coming from another artist, I feel I'm on the right track. :)
@ Wendy
The allergy is gone, finally! How's the baby doing? I wish you have a healthy pregnancy all throughout. :)
@ Lilly
Thanks! Sometimes we tend to forget to stop and smell the flowers. :)
@ Pin
Wow, I see you have a little artist, too! I hope my little lady gets to have her own art exhibit in the future as well. Thanks for dropping by! :)
@ Jasmine
Thanks! I hope I'll be able to bring out the best in her all the time. Have a great week ahead as well! :)
@ Hailey
Oh, I have a lot of 'utang' already on tags. Hopefully I can do this one, this time! Thanks Hails. :)
@ Christine
Thank you for the great suggestion. :) I'm still compiling all her artwork for framing. Problem is, we have a lot! So I guess it's best to alternate the old one with a new one every time, just as you suggested. :)
Hi Shinade,
Whenever I hear inspirational stories just like yours, the more that I am motivated to encourage my daughter to do what she loves.
Time flies so fast, that's why no matter how busy I am, I try my best to squeeze in some quality time to spend with her in any way I can.
Thank you for dropping by and leaving a lovely comment. Have a pleasant week ahead! :)
Hi Durano,
It's only now that I realized that the band's name translates to 'Higad' in Filipino! lol! Anyhow, I will only scratch off the 'itchy' ones that will try to harm my skin. :)
I'm happy to know that you also have an artist in your family. Is she the Taurean that you mentioned to me earlier? If she is, then I'm not surprised.
If only I could turn back the clock, I would get into the exact path your daughter took. I'm a self-taught graphic artist, by the way. The only formal art training that I had was in charcoal painting. The rest, I learned through genuine interest, sheer patience and determination to be able to do what I love.
I originally wanted to take up Fine Arts in college, but I was undecided. I took up Communication Arts instead, only to find out later that my heart will always go back to its first love, which is art.
Hopefully, with proper guidance and encouragement, my daughter will take the path that will bring her a successful future in the field that she truly loves.
Thank you for adding value to this post. Have a great week ahead! :)
love her drawing! so cute...
